New members elected to Arion Bank’s Board of Directors

Arion Bank‘s shareholders‘ meeting was held in the Bank‘s headquarters at Borgartún 19 this morning. At the meeting, two new board members were elected: Benedikt Olgeirsson and Björgvin Skúli Sigurdsson. They will replace Jón G. Briem and Björg Arnardóttir, who was an alternate for Freyr Thórdarson. Freyr resigned from the Board of Directors earlier this year when he was appointed Managing Director of Corporate Banking at Arion Bank.

The Board of Directors now consists of the following members: Monica Caneman, Chairman, Gudrún Johnsen, Vice-Chairman, Agnar Kofoed-Hansen, Benedikt Olgeirsson, Björgvin Skúli Sigurdsson, Måns Höglund and Thóra Hallgrímsdóttir.

The following will remain as alternates: Björg Arnardóttir, Bödvar Jónsson, Gudrún Björnsdóttir, Hrönn Ingólfsdóttir, Kirstín Th. Flygenring, Ólafur Árnason and Ólafur Örn Svansson.

Benedikt Olgeirsson

Benedikt has been Deputy CEO of Landspítali University Hospital since 2010. Between 1988 and 1992 Benedikt worked as a project manager in civil engineering. He was a manager at Eimskip between 1993 and 2004, most recently as head of Eimskip's operations in Hamburg. He was managing director of Parlogis from 2004 to 2005, and managing director of Atorka between 2005 and 2009.

Benedikt completed a degree in civil engineering from the University of Iceland in 1986. He then received an MSc in construction engineering and project management at the University of Washington in Seattle. He has also completed courses at Wharton Business School and Harvard Business School.

Björgvin Skúli Sigurdsson

Björgvin is currently managing director of marketing and business development at Landsvirkjun. Between 2005 and 2008 Björgvin was a specialist in credit default swaps at Lehman Brothers in London. He then worked at LBHI Services Limited from 2008 to 2010 where he was part of a team unwinding the credit derivatives books of Lehman Brothers. Between 2010 and 2013 he worked in debt financing at Deutsche Bank in London.

Björgvin completed a degree in mechanical and industrial engineering from the University of Iceland in 1998. He then gained an MSc. in economics and finance from Stanford in 2002. He went on to complete a Ph.D. in management science and engineering from the same university in 2005.
