Changes at management level
Sigurjón Pálsson has been appointed managing director of Arion Bank’s Operations division. The Operations division incorporates human resources, information technology, back office and property management. The Operations division has 250 employees.
Sigurjón is educated as an engineer and has a master’s degree from KTH in Stockholm and MIT. Sigurjón has worked for the Bank and its predecessors since 2005, initially in Investment Banking and in recent years as a departmental head in Corporate Recovery. Sigurjón previously held a management position at the contracting firm Ístak, where he was in charge of IT and other key projects.
Sigurjón is taking over as managing director of Operations from Helgi Bjarnason who has been appointed managing director of Retail Banking. Helgi is succeeding Hermann Björnsson who has joined Sjóvá as CEO. The Retail Banking division is responsible for the Bank's network of 24 branches and has 420 employees.
Helgi Bjarnason joined the Bank in October 2010. He is educated as a mathematician and holds a cand. act. in actuarial mathematics from the University of Copenhagen. Before joining Arion Bank, Helgi was deputy CEO of Sjóvá.
