On Friday Arion Bank, Vörður and Stefnir were recognised as companies which had excelled in terms of corporate governance. The award was given by Excellence Iceland, the Icelandic Chamber of Commerce, the Confederation of Icelandic Employers, and Nasdaq Iceland. The three companies were among 15 companies to be recognised at the ceremony.

Excellence in corporate governance is a project launched almost a decade ago with the aim of improving corporate governance in Iceland and to enhance compliance with the Guidelines on Corporate Governance issued by the Icelandic Chamber of Commerce, the Confederation of Icelandic Employers and Nasdaq Iceland. In order to be recognised companies have to undergo a formal assessment of the governance of board of directors and management, and compliance with the laws, regulations and guidelines.
